Leslie Bennett Sherwood has been on faculty with Writing Programs since 2011. Before coming to UCLA, she taught ESL to migrant, immigrant, and international populations in the US and Australia. Leslie’s formal training includes a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Politics and Latin American and Latino Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a Master’s of Science in Education with a concentration in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Cal State Fullerton.

Leslie mainly teaches academic reading and writing courses for multilingual students, working to equip her students with the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in the university. She also serves as a member of Writing Program’s ESL committee and is a reader for the ESL Placement and the Academic Writing Placement Exams. Outside of the university, Leslie is an active member of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), having attended, volunteered, and presented at workshops and conferences since 2009. Her professional interests include grammar, vocabulary acquisition, and academic reading and writing.
