Community-Engaged Writing Courses

English Composition 3SL Course

English Composition 3SL focuses on the demands of academic writing, writing process, methods of revision, and ways to write for different audiences. Service Learning (SL) is a pedagogical approach that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. Students will gain hands-on experience outside the classroom while strengthening their writing and critical thinking skills. Each week students apply their academic skills to support the work of a community partner, culminating in 20 hours of service learning by the end of the quarter. In addition to discussing their experiences in class, students will analyze their service learning in at least one essay for the course.  To read more about this course, visit the ENG COMP 3SL blog.
