Laurel Westrup
Laurel Westrup holds a B.A. in Communication from UC San Diego, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Cinema and Media Studies from UCLA. She joined Writing Programs full time in 2011, having previously served as a Teaching Fellow and Teaching Assistant Consultant with Writing Programs. She is now a Continuing Lecturer and Coordinator for the Graduate Certificate in Writing Pedagogy (GCWP), through which she continues to work with graduate student instructors. Laurel teaches English Composition 2, English Composition 130E and M185 with the Professional Writing Minor, English Composition 402 with the GCWP, and she sometimes teaches Writing II courses based in her background in Media and Popular Music Studies. She is co-editor of Sampling Media (Oxford University Press, 2014) and The Soundtrack Album: Listening to Media (Routledge, 2020), and her scholarship has also appeared in many journals and edited volumes.
