Laura Hartenberger received a B.A. in English from Yale University and an M.A. in English in the Field of Creative Writing from the University of Toronto. Before joining Writing Programs, she taught writing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the University of Toronto. Her teaching approach focuses on building the rhetorical flexibility to write and revise effectively across a range of genres, styles, and disciplines. In addition to writing traditional academic essays, her students have produced opinion pieces, reviews, marketing content, proposals, creative writing, memos, speeches, collaborative anthologies, personal essays, reports, podcasts, and multimodal works, among other forms. At UCLA, Laura also works on projects related to writing assessment and writing placement. Her fiction and essays have appeared in various literary journals and anthologies, and she has experience editing for literary journals, consulting on manuscripts, jurying writing contests, and working as a writer in the tech field.
