Enrollment

The Department of Homeland security requires international students to complete at least 8 units per session.

If for some medical or emergency reason you are unable to attend full-time study, you must contact UCLA’s Summer Sessions international advisor at international@summer.ucla.edu, 310-267-4880, or in person at 1331 Murphy Hall immediately. In exceptional circumstances a course load of fewer than 8 units may be approved if you have an illness or other medical condition (by providing a physician’s statement).

If you are using a registration center, this center will add classes for you.

Once you are enrolled in your classes, you can add courses through the end of Week 1. If you want to add any courses during Week 2, you will need permission from the instructor (a PTE number). You can use this PTE to add a class on My.UCLA. In addition, you can complete a Summer Sessions Student Update Form with an authorized signature from the instructor and return it to Summer Sessions in Murphy Hall (Rooms 1331 or 1113). However, it is much easier to ask the instructor for a PTE number.

If you want to add a class on week 3 or after, you must submit a Summer Sessions Student Update Form with an authorized signature from the instructor for each class being added to 1331 or 1113 Murphy Hall. In our ESL classes, instructors will rarely let you join their courses after Week 1.

For more detailed information, please visit the UCLA Summer Sessions website.

If you want to drop classes, please make sure you let your instructors know. In addition, be sure to remain enrolled in 8 units at all times.

All ESL courses are NON-IMPACTED courses. You can drop non-impacted courses through My.UCLA.edu before the final two weeks of instruction.

If you want to drop a course during the two final weeks of classes, you need to submit a Summer Sessions Student Update Form with the instructor’s signature to 1331 or 113 Murphy Hall. This form should certify that the coursework was not completed.

Please make sure you visit the Summer Sessions website for detailed information on enrollment.
