UCLA Writing Summer Institute Scholarship Application

UCLA Writing Programs is now accepting applications for scholarships to our 2020 Writing Summer Institute! Program details can be found here.

The deadline to submit your application, along with the supplementary required materials, is Friday, May 15, 2020.

Please note that our scholarships do not cover the cost of housing, and that no housing is available through UCLA for the program. Students must be able to provide transportation for themselves to and from the campus for the duration of the program.

  • REQUIRED ESSAY: Read the essay prompt below carefully and respond in a well-written, typed essay of no more than two pages or 500 words. Upload your essay as a file using the link below.

    Describe how your personal life experiences have shaped you into the person that you are today. Include any challenges that have contributed to or hindered your educational progress and development, such as your family’s educational, financial, and/or ethnic and cultural background. Relate how these factors and your participation in the Writing Summer Institute will play a role in your future as a high school student or future university student.



  • Additional required documents:
    • An official copy of your most recent High School transcript. Transcripts can be mailed to the address below, or emailed to: ahernandez@humnet.ucla.edu
    • Letter of Support from a teacher or school counselor, commenting on your ability to successfully complete a rigorous academic or creative program. Please allow your recommender at least two weeks to complete a letter of support. Letters of support can be mailed to the address below, or emailed to: ahernandez@humnet.ucla.edu
