Campus Partnerships

Writing Programs representatives serve on academic support and advisory committees with the Office of Residential Life, the Academic Advancement ProgramNew Student & Transition Programs, the Diversity Requirement Ad Hoc Committee, and enrollment planning with the College of Letters and Science.

Writing Programs faculty are working collaboratively with the UCLA Library on outreach and digital projects focused on Los Angeles and California. One Writing Programs instructor has created the City and the Library, a website featuring students’ collaborative annotations of rare and archival Los Angeles materials housed in the Library’s Special Collections. Another Writing Programs instructor has delivered this year’s Powell Society’s annual Fall keynote address in the Library Rotunda, which has led to continuing projects with both the Charles E. Young Research Library and the undergraduate library, Powell Library.

Writing Programs leads or contributes to essay prize contests for the Dashew Center and the Division of the Humanities.

Writing Programs instructors teach an undergraduate business writing course for the Department of Economics, and graduate language courses for the Anderson School of Management and School of the Arts and Architecture.  Lecturers from Writing Programs consult regularly with the School of Engineering and Applied Science, University Extension, as well as with individual departments across campus on curricular and pedagogical matters.  Writing Programs offers a Graduate Certificate in Writing Pedagogy open to graduate students from across campus who are teaching writing-intensive courses.

Writing Programs is collaborating with the Division of Social Sciences on an initiative to improve student writing in upper-division courses through peer learning facilitation. The project received a major Instructional Improvement Grant from the Office of Instructional Development.

Writing Programs also sponsors live events that highlight the centrality of the writing process to discovery and learning. Last year, the program sponsored an event with children’s book author and illustrator, K.G. Campbell, that included participation from Powell Library and the UCLA Lab School.
